EXCLUSIVE PHOTOS: What Really Happened In Kwahu!

Anytime Easter approaches, the only place that readily comes to mind is Kwahu in the Eastern region. By and large, Easter celebrations in Kwahu has become an annual ritual where thousands of Ghanaians mainly from Accra, Kumasi, other parts of the country and even some from the diaspora gather on the Kwahu ridge to make merry.

Though there are several business opportunities and countless tourist attractions on the Kwahu mountains that can be taken advantage off during the three days (Friday to Sunday) celebration, the chiefs of the various Kwahu towns, the citizens of Kwahu and the government have done very little to tap the numerous money making avenues that crop up during the celebration.

Even the paragliding exercise which was created and launched some few years ago by the then Deputy Minister of Tourism, Hon. Ferdinand Ayim of blessed memory, has seen very little improvement. Aside the fact that the exercise is less publicized; there are several other factors which make the very lucrative sports less attractive to Easter celebrants who might be interested.

The road from the main town of Atibie to where the paragliding takes place is very bumpy and dusty and every car is supposed to pay a toll before it is allowed to enter. The fee charged for someone to take part in the paragliding (To fly without wings) is way too expensive for the average person to have a feel of the experience. This year, the organisers charged GH¢80 (¢800,000) per head and the pilots operating the parachutes were all foreigners, whiles little effort has been made to train Ghanaians to operate the parachutes to cut cost.

There are no appropriate event venues at Kwahu to encourage professional event organizers to put together quality programmes during the celebrations. All functions in Kwahu during Easter are mostly free outdoor events or street carnivals organized by alcoholic beverage companies who obviously do not need gate proceeds but only people to purchase their products.

The few indoor events are either organized by the musicians themselves or individual promoters in small hotels which can seat only a few people, and even that, the events mostly end up with low patronage because people will rather gallivant on the streets, listen to free music and go for free drinks than pay to attend an event.

Above all the biggest problem during Easter celebration in Kwahu is the traffic situation on the Kwahu Mountain. The streets are extremely narrow and vehicles can be locked up in a traffic jam for several hours. Even though Kwahu towns are sited close to each other, it takes several hours to move from one town to the other because of traffic.

Despite all these, the youth who troop to Kwahu during Easter find their own ways of making themselves happy. Whiles most ladies sometimes dress indecently and expose certain parts of their bodies that under normal circumstances needed to be covered, the young men are seen smoking and drinking indiscriminately, whiles others are seen kissing and smooching in public, etc.

Over time, Easter celebration in Kwahu has become an avenue for immoral activities instead of the biblical purpose of celebrating the death of Christ. Peacefmonline.com camera lenses captured some scenes portraying what REALLY went down in Kwahu; which nobody spoke about.

It is obvious several people will have divergent opinions as to whether these pictures should be published or not. But this is not to dent the image of anyone, but rather to expose the immorality that goes on in our beloved Kwahu during Easter.

If this is how the government, chiefs and people of Kwahu want Kwahu to be portrayed then so be it, but if not, then this goes out To Whom It May Concern.

All persons in the photos below were very much aware of the shot and actually posed for peacefmonline.com cameras.
